Mountain flax or wharariki. Tough 1.5m sword-like leaves, drooping at the tips, grow in a strong clump. Yellowish flowers on 2m stems attract birds with nectar and then turn to graceful, pendant, twisted capsules. Thrives in wet or dry soil.
